Excessive hair growth can make a woman look
unfeminine if it is not addressed. It can be an extremely embarrassing
condition, but there is treatment available.
Hirsutism is a condition that appears to be excessive
growth of dark, coarse body and facial hair in women. This type of
hair growth is considered abnormal and can occur on the body where men
typically grow hair including the face, chest and back. It is important
to remember that the growth of body and facial hair is normal, however,
women with hirsutism tend to have high levels of male sex hormones
called androgens their ovaries and adrenal glands that is the catalyst
excessive growth. Most cases of hirsutism are not serious and have no
underlying cause.
If you are experiencing excessive hair growth, you
should seek medical treatment from an endocrinologist or dermatologist as they
will be able to diagnose levels of hormones asking for blood tests.
There are many medications available in the market that
helps in the treatment of hirsutism. These medications may include
reducing the amount of hair and stop the growth of new hair.
Anti-androgens are drugs that reduce the production of
androgens and possibly block the action of androgens on the hair follicle.
The most commonly used anti-androgen is spironolactone.
Spironolactone is often used in conjunction with birth control pills
also help regulate the menstrual cycle. If you decide to take spironolactone,
you can take a cheaper birth control pills, as opposed to the more expensive.
Cyproterone acetate is another anti-androgen drug, but is not available for
sale in the United States. Cypterone acetate is contained in the contraceptive
pill called Diane and Diane-35, which is very effective in treating this
condition. Finasteride is another option in the treatment of hirsutism,
but it is not approved for use in women in the United States. With the drug for
many women with unwanted hair seek methods of hair removal to control the appearance
of hirsutism. Waxing is a good option, but you'll need to do this at least
every month. Laser hair removal is an effective option, but is not
immediate as it is normally done on a number of visits. To reduce hair
growth, you should try and wax at least every month. Try not to shave, that
may leave the stubble that can be unsightly and grow back much faster.
Due to high levels of male hormones circulating in the body
which can cause hair loss due to affecting the hair follicle.
Hair thinning causes a woman to feel less attractive and it is time to continue
